Chapter Overview
Khara Dinner (کھڑا ڈنر) is a celebrated satirical masterpiece by Syed Muhammad Jafri (سید محمد جعفری), one of the foremost humorists and satirists in Urdu literature. In this amusing yet deeply thoughtful poem, Jafri lampoons the Western concept of the buffet dinner ('standing buffet') as embraced by modern Eastern social gatherings.
Through vivid imagery, witty metaphors, and lively wordplay, the poet depicts the awkward plight of well-dressed guests jostling for dishes, balancing overflowing plates while standing, and forfeiting cultural modesty, relaxation, and dignified hospitality. The notes provide thorough stanza-by-stanza Tashreeh elucidating poetic irony, humor mechanisms, and linguistic humor in line with Punjab Board evaluation benchmarks.
In addition, this chapter provides fully solved textbook exercises, including analytical questions, contextual comprehension, vocabulary meanings, and Markazi Khayal.
